5 affordable retirement locations with waterfront property

by Local Marketing Leave a Comment

Dreaming of retiring on a waterfront property but the though of cost keeps waking you up? Try these 4, affordable waterfront retirement locations.

Not long ago, topretirements.com posted a survey done by their own Retirement Ranger that had only two environmental factors.  These were “coastal” and “lakefront”.  The Retirement Ranger returned with 50 choices and topretirements.com chose 11.  We’re narrowing down even more for the sake of simplicity, and bringing you the top 4 affordable places to retire on the waterfront.

  1. Waterfront retirement boyton beach floridaBoynton Beach, FL: Considered the “little brother” to more famous beaches like Delray Beach and Palm Beach, FL, Boyton Beach is every bit as retirement worthy. It shares the same ocean, same climate, and same sand as its big brothers and is only a few miles from both of these major retirement locations.  The median home price has dropped significantly in the past few years and is a staggering $84,000 (2012 statistic).
  2. St. Petersburg, FL:  This incredible city is perfect for the prospecting retiree.  Sitting on a peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, the beaches are covered in beautiful white sands, warm water, and plenty of waterfront properties and entertainment. A never ending array of boutique shops and restaurants cover the city.  St. Petersburg, FL is just a 15 minute drive to the world famous International Plaza in Tampa.
  3. Port Isabel, TX: A popular resort and beach town, this city also serves as a perfect waterfront retirement destination for those keeping an eye on their finances.  Relaxing, fishing, and beach going are, of course, the most popular activities here.  The median house value as of 2012 was just $100,794 (from city-data.com).
  4. watefront living in Napa ValleyNapa Valley, CA: The Napa Riverfront offers incredible waterfront properties that many people in the United States didn’t even know existed.  Home prices are however, on the slightly higher end of the affordability scale.  They range from around $600,00 for a property with no access to the waterways to over $1 million for waterfront properties with premium access.  This waterfront retirement location is for the boating and water enthusiast.  The Napa Yacht Club is home to an incredibly family friendly community.  Downtown Napa is filled with restaurants, live music, shops, and of course – wine tasting.

With the exception of the Napa Valley, keep in mind that the other three retirement locations listed are in hurricane zones and tend to have a higher than average humidity rate.  If heat isn’t a problem for you and you enjoy the warm Gulf waters, then the south east is the spot for you.  For hurricane-free waterfront living, Napa Valley is the number one spot to retire, hands down.
