Blessing of Napa’s Boats

by Local Marketing

Napa Valley Yacht Club Boat Blessing Donald Buresh Real Estate - Waterfront and Riverfront Property SpecialistOn February 16, The Napa Valley Yacht Club and The Coast Guard Auxiliary held their annual boat inspection and blessing of the boats.

This service is sponsored by Napa Valley’s Yacht Club at the beginning of the cruising season each year for all of Napa County’s boat owners.  The boat inspections were supervised by Curt Han of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.  Participating boats were GrandCru, Tom Foolery, CKing Fun, Calaka, and Bounty Hunter.

This inspection covers 36 points of boating safety, on-board safety equipment, and knowledge of the boat captain.  Everything on the vessel is inspected, including flotation devices, electrical, and fuel safety systems to the proper lines and ropes.  The insurance requirements and accident reporting responsibilities are covered as well.  Additionally, the Coast Guard updates boaters on their current regulations.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Napa Valley Yacht Club perform this voluntary service to allow boaters to be completely prepared for a season of safe boating.

Following the inspections, each captain was gifted a decal to display on their boats.

Donald Buresh, Napa Valley Yacht Club member as well as Waterfront and Riverfront Property Expert blessed the fleet in a traditional ceremony dating all the way back to the Middle Ages!  A cruise captain by the name of Karen Agnew and her able-bodied team prepared a delicious lunch consisting of Chicago-style hot dogs, chili beans, potato salad, and brownies. Dr. Tom Hildreth, the fleet captain, thought all of the participants in the event were indeed blessed with a great kickoff the new and exciting cruising year.

The announcement of next year’s boat safety inspection event at the Napa Valley Yacht Club dock will be available in the Napa Valley Register.

The Top 7 Waterfront and Riverfront Cities

by Local Marketing

Buy waterfront riverfront property in The Napa Valley

You may be interested in a waterfront or riverfront vacation home, but where are our top 7 waterfront cities?

7. Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg has two lakes, nearly 2,400 different bridges across its canals, and an active port on the Elbe River.  The city has since broadened its relationship with the water, put the planned HafenCity project into place.  It is a prime example of the “Power of 10” multiuse theory, as it boasts a concert hall, marketplaces, ship terminals, museums, apartments, shops, public transportation hubs, schools, restaurants, and parkland.

6. Baltimore, Maryland

Baltimore was part of the initial movement to renew the waterfront.  It has an amazing setting that has a compact and diversified harbor that both residents and visitors can engage with.  The boardwalk in Baltimore forms a “U”-shape, and the water takes center stage.  Their boardwalk goes east, and reaches enclosed piers, which have more attractions such as shops, art galleries, restaurants (with seating outside,) and the National Aquarium!

5. Venice, Italy

You may get lost walking across the bridges and slender streets of the one-hundred and eighty-eight islands that make up the city of Venice, but you will find yourself connected with the allure of the city.  In a large amount of cities, the roads are the largest problematic aspect of the scenery; but in Venice, they are the most breathtaking part.

4. San Sebastián, Spain

Essentially hugging the rim of the Bay of Biscay, San Sebastián’s beautiful promenade goes along the arcing coast from on from one edge of the city to the alternative edge of the city.  San Sebastián is a very prominent Spanish beach resort, that intrigues its visitors to visit the waterfront with features such as two crescent beaches that go along the Bay of Biscay at the end of the old city.  It also features Parte Vieja, which is a neighborhood that flows with activity.

3. Rio De Janerio, Brazil

Rio De Janerio, often shorted to Rio, is the second largest city in Brazil.  Rio’s beachfront is a breathtaking sight. It is intricately designed, with black-and-white cobblestones, studded with cafés and merchants. It is a ceremonial spot where those who want to look, can bond with those that want to be looked at.  Rio De Janerio is the home of the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) atop the Corcovado mountain.  It has been named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

2. Sydney, Australia

Sydney is the home to one of the most visually paralyzing bays in the world.  Sydney’s Harbor is a great place to take a boat ride, go for a stroll, or just sit and relax.  While Sydney is the famous home of the Opera House, there is also iconic beaches, busy water traffic, as well as calm parks over the water.

1. Napa, California

Napa Valley is famous area known as the “wine country,” but the Napa Valley riverfront is a fancy, relaxing, and breathtaking experience.  There are a wide variety of restaurants and shops, as well as events that come around from time-to-time.  With amazing homes on the water and activities near by, Napa’s waterfront and riverfront community is simply one of the best in the world.

How to Find and Buy the Perfect Riverfront/Waterfront Vacation Home

by Local Marketing

A large amount of home buyers have an advantage over renters in many markets, which means that now many be the time for you to purchase that second home on the water you’ve been wanting.

Buy waterfront riverfront home in The Napa Valley

Step 1: Give the home a try

If you are interested in a waterfront or riverfront home, you may want to find out if renting the home for one stay is a viable option.  If you are unfamiliar with the location that the home is in, you may want to check out what the town or city is like.  This will give you an opportunity to evaluate not only the waterfront property but the surrounding amenities and attractions.

Consider all factors when you are giving the home a try, including how far away everything is.  You may want something that is secluded from the rest of the area, or something with easy access to the town.  Another important item that you should consider is how much money you are going to spend on airfare and fuel to get to your vacation home.  These are all of the major elements to keep in mind while renting a vacation home.

Step 2: Consider your needs

What do you want your vacation home to allow you to do?  Do you enjoy boating, canoeing, swimming, fishing, kayaking, or any other water activities?  If that is for you, then you will want to assess the conditions of the water the home you are interested is on.

If you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view from the comfort of your home, then you may want it to be more of a secluded property than anything else.

Step 3: Assess the condition of the property

People have a tendency to fall in love with the home and do not consider the condition of the property that the home is on.  When you’re purchasing a vacation home, you should consider the following:

  • Is this a natural disaster prone area?
  • What condition is the plumbing in?
  • Is there asbestos on the property?
  • How old is the wiring in the home?

These are the practical decisions that need to be made beyond the condition of the home itself.  Remember to ask questions about the property condition, such as the ones above. They are the only way you will find out everything you want and need to know.

Step 4: Work with a local agent with experience

It is extremely important to have a great agent who is familiar with the area that the property is in.  They may have access to more properties for you, and will likely have a better reputation.  A local expert may also have more information to offer you about the area that you are interested in than you could find anywhere else.

If you can find an honest, well known, well liked, and experienced waterfront or riverfront property agent within the area you’re looking at, then we would highly recommend working with them over anyone else.  Their expertise in choosing a waterfront or riverfront property will far surpass that of an agent that only handles the occasional waterfront property sale.
