My Top 10 things to do in Napa Valley:
- Napa Valley Balloons
When I first arrive in a city and want to see the sites, I love to get an aerial view. If you feel the same then you have to sail over the napa valley in a balloon. There are several companies which offer balloon rides over the napa valley, CA including Companies like “Balloons over the Valley” and “Napa Valley Balloons, Inc.” Your ride can include pick-up from your napa valley hotel if you desire and you’ll take off in the morning. You’ll witness amazing architecture and Victorian mansions as well as get incredible views of many napa vineyards. The balloon pilots of Napa Valley are all quite knowledgeable about the history of the area and after the flight you’ll be treated to a champagne brunch. What better way to start your trip. If your flight over napa vineyards made you long for the great outdoors there are two amazing parks that I include in my top 10 things to do in Napa Valley.
- Skyline Wilderness Park
The first park in Napa valley which I consider the one of the best park in Napa Valley is Skyline Wilderness Park. This park has lots of trails which are great if you enjoy horseback riding or mountain biking. If you want to go on your own two feet there is plenty of hiking as well. This park is very famous for hiking in Napa Valley. The views are incredible and you just want to enjoy the outdoors without taking to the hiking trails you can also do picnic, camp or play disc golf at the park.
- Westwood Hills Park
The next park, Westwood Hills Park also has picnic areas and amazing views. I recommend it more for hiking and backpacking than horseback riding and you can’t bring your mountain bike so think of Westwood Hills as a little quieter and a bit smaller so if crowds aren’t your thing, Westwood Hills might be as many people miss this little gem. This Park has the best hiking trails in Napa Valley.
- Yountville City Walk
A City walking tour of Yountville is a great way to see some of the sites that you viewed from the air to include charming restaurants and shops of Napa Valley, CA. If you want to find souvenirs aside from napa wine, Yountville is worth your afternoon. There are some guided walking napa valley tours but I think it’s easy enough to stroll the streets on your own just be sure to stop at the Lincoln theater. There are other museums, parks and plenty if you enjoy city tours in Napa Valley.
- Napa Valley Opera House
If arts are your thing, the Napa Valley Opera House is worth a stop. It was built in the 1880s and is among the historical buildings register for the area. Both concerts and theater are offered for those who are artistically inclined.

Although most people might not think of visiting Napa Valley with a family, especially one that included children, I include among the top ten list a few family friendly ideas. I’ve always loved science museums and think they can be fun for children of every age, even the senior citizen who is a kid at heart.

- Scientopia Discovery Center
With this in mind, Scientopia Discovery Center is a must during your visit. Scientopia Discovery center is a science museum of Napa Valley which is relatively inexpensive (under $10 for adults, $5 for children and a second adult is free) and is open 363 days per year (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas). Scientopia Discovery Center of Napa Valley has lots of exhibits to include windmills, light tables, bubble exhibits, a wind tunnel and even a bike where up to 5 children can ride at once to generate power. It’s also educational though don’t tell the kids!
- Safari West Wildlife Preserve
Another absolute favorite for kids of all ages is Safari West Wildlife Preserve. If you typically think of the San Diego Zoo when you think of animals in California you’re definitely missing out if you don’t visit this location on my top ten things to do in Napa Valley. The park is over 400 acres and based on animals which are found in African wildlife preserves. Most guests will take the Safari vehicle tour which lasts a few hours and includes some walking. You can expect to see giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, cheetahs, lemurs, buffalo and more birds and reptiles than you can shake a feather at. In all there are more than 700 animals, at the Wildlife Preserve.
- Six Flag Discovery Kingdom
Because I love animals and science as well as kids, I include one more family friendly attraction among my Best things to do in Napa Valley or top ten things to do in Napa Valley, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (formerly Marine World). Six Flag Discovery Kingdom is amazing because it combines all the great things Six Flags has to offer. If you love roller coasters, Discovery Kingdom has several! If thrill rides aren’t your thing and you’d rather watch shows and visit animals you are in luck because Discovery Kingdom has both an animal portion and marine portion to the park both of which include amazing shows. There are opportunities to swim with dolphins or get close to tigers, watch birds in flight and simply discover amazing and exotic animals. There are over 500 animals which actually gives the Safari West Wildlife Preserve a run for its money but both are worth your time!
- Napa Valley Wine Train
Although my list of top 10 things to do in Napa Valley California includes many items for the family or outdoor getaways, I would be remiss if I didn’t include the Napa Valley Wine Train among the top 10 must do things in Napa Valley to include in your napa valley vacation. The train was first built in the mid 1800s and like a fine wine, it just keeps getting better with age. I highly recommend the Moonlight escape rides which are very romantic little getaways. The views of the stars and vineyards are amazing as you sit in a domed rail car and the accompanying 5 course meal prepared by a wonderful executive chef is to die for.
